55+ Beginner SUP Lessons

Initial 100 minute lesson. Group size 3-5. Ages 50+ (must be in good health) $140

Skills Practice: A series of 6- 60 minute group sessions to practice skills with supervision. $450 TUESDAYS 10:30 a.m.

It is never too late and you are never too old to take up a new passion and SUP is a sport that can be easily enjoyed with adaptations long into your golden years.

Come join us on the lake and find out why Stand up Paddle boarding is taking the world by storm.

SUP (short for Stand up Paddleboarding) is the absolute best way to get out and enjoy the water this Summer. With very little equipment ( a board, paddle and PDF) you can be ready to take on and explore just about any waterway. Whatever you’re particular interests are..chances are you can use SUP to make it even better..versatility is a big part of the attraction!

Extra bonus…it burns 700 calories an hour and offers a full body workout, all while you’re having fun!! In this 50+ classes, you will learn with your peers and we will also take extra time to stretch things out before and after. Your body and soul will thank you for taking the leap and trying a new thing.

EVERYONE needs a lesson, even if you’ve tried it before. We teach you EVERYTHING you need to know to safely paddle going forward.

WEATHER FORECASTING & reading the weather on the water
SAFETY – everything you need to have on board + Ontario laws

Whatever your age, gender or previous water sport experience, you should give it a try. Our small class sizes and fantastic coach will help you get your basic paddle boarding skills, allowing you to be up and paddling in no time. So don’t think you haven’t got the spare time, patience, or have left it too late in life… it’s never too late to learn to paddle board!! Once you’re up and gliding over the water, you will never, ever look back!

Wellness Protocols

2022 WELLNESS POLICIES:

We have updated our policies & procedures to ensure the safety of our staff and clients at the beach. If you are not following protocols, you are putting others at risk and you will not be allowed to participate or continue to participate in any activity or rental and will be asked to immediately leave the area.

All clients must be in good health to participate in a Burlington Beach Rentals activity or rental.
DO NOT COME… if experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath, sudden loss of taste or smell, or cold flu-like symptoms.
DO NOT COME… if you have been in physical contact with anyone in medical quarantine and/or out of the Province in the last 14 days.
If you cannot come because of items 2 or 3, above… please notify us and you can rebook for another date.

Arrival Protocol

Please follow these steps to ensure we are able to protect our staff and clients while providing a great experience.

Waivers must be done online prior to arrival.
You will receive an email confirming our meet up location on the Burlington Beach after booking. This is subject to change if the beach is busy.
Please have your PHOTO ID ready to check into the class.
Life jackets and Paddles will be assigned in the parking area. You will need to carry your own inflatable SUP to the beach area (appx 24 lbs)
Everyone must maintain six feet social distancing while waiting in line to check in for your first class and during the land and water portions of your training.
We reserve the right to ask for temperature scans through the season. If a person’s temperature is above 38 Celsius, they will not be allowed to enter or participate and must leave the area. There will be no refund, but they can rebook for another date.
Please do not bring your valuables to the beach or your lesson. We will have some dry bags for clients to borrow but there is no secure place to put your valuables on the beach.
Clients are not to touch any company equipment that has not been handed to them.
At the end of your class pleasure ensure any garbage is removed from the boats and you take your plastic ziploc with you.
All boards & equipment must be returned back to the parking area at the end of class & our staff will be responsible for de-contaminating all equipment.
Porta Potty Washrooms are available and serviced by the City of Burlington.

Booking FAQ

*Our classes must be pre-booked online or by contacting us via email. Class schedule will begin late June and run twice at week for group classes. You may also book a private lesson by contacting us directly. If you have a minimum of 3 in your group we may be able to schedule other days during the week.

ALL CLASSES RUN LIGHT RAIN OR SHINE.

If you need extra assistance booking, or would like to arrange a private group please email us your request.

WEATHER – Please note our classes cannot take place in inclement conditions such as high winds, thingerstorms or surf. In case we must reschedule your class due to inclement conditions you may choose any future scheduled class.

Have a gift certificate you would like to use? Either call directly or include that in the message. You must get a confirmation from us directly to ensure there is space in the class.

It’s way more fun to get started with the RIGHT basic skills that get you out paddling with ease.

What to Expect

Please arrive AT LEAST 20 min’s before class starts to sign waivers & get geared up at our beach shop before heading down to the water. We encourage everyone to take time to stretch before we start paddling. You will use muscles you may not even know were there before!

CLASSES BEGIN PROMPTLY at stated start time.

*CLASS STRUCTURE:

10 MINUTES – Safety debrief & SUP basics on the beach
40 MINUTES – On the water with instructor. Everything you need to know to have fun & stay safe on the water from paddling technique to fall recovery & much more.
20 MINUTES – Free time to practice new skills
RETURN TO THE BEACH– verbal assessment from our coach, review & group picture.

*LESSONS RUN LIGHT RAIN OR SHINE, we will only cancel classes if there is lightening OR if the waves are unacceptable for beginners. Class structure may be altered if the need arises but all areas will be covered. Classes that cannot take place will be rescheduled. No refunds will be given.

What to Wear

Please dress according to the weather. YOU MAY GET WET. You may wear a bathing suit or other light, easy dry clothing. If it is cool and you own a wet suit, you are welcome to bring them. No footwear is needed on your SUP but you may want to bring water shoes for getting in and out of the shore. We provide all needed safety equipment and YOU MUST WEAR YOUR P.D.F. We encourage you to lather on NON OIL BASED high SPF sunscreen before you hit the water and wear a hat.

Changerooms and bathrooms are all available in the main bathroom building in the park. Bring a change of clothes as a precaution

For many, one class is all you need to get the basics down and start enjoying life on a SUP. Those that need additional lessons or would like to improve their skills may book into an intermediate class.

Our Instructors

We are very happy to welcome back Maria to run our SUP courses once again this season!!

Paddling around in kayak & canoes since she was a child, Maria’s love for the water came at an early age. Happiest when playing in the sparkles and introducing people to the Staycation living concept. She has over 20 years experience leading groups, mentoring and sharing her knowledge on a wide array of subjects. Offering a safe and enjoyable introduction to SUP that is sure to include tons of laughter. Each of our staff including Maria has their EMERGENCY FIRST AID & CPR training, boat license and are proficient swimmers. Maria also has her STANDARD FIRST AID & CPR training, PADDLE CANADA SUP instructor certification.

Beginner to Intermediate lessons.

Maria has the best teaching style we have seen and we guarantee that you will love your lesson. She makes everyone comfortable and ensures that each person in the group gets the attention they deserve. Last year’s students raved about our SUP classes and we can’t wait to help teach even more people about this amazing sport.

Ania – SUP & SUP YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Ania absolutely loves being on the water and sharing her passion for Stand up Paddling. She is a patient and experienced instructor that will help you reach your own personal goals on the water. Ania has her PADDLE CANADA SUP instructor certification, SUPYOGA CERTIFICATION and EMERGENCY FIRST AID & CPR. You can find her leading our Beach, SUP Yoga & Learn to SUP programs.

Picture Packages

PICTURE PACKAGES – You may now purchase pictures of your fantastic Summer adventure!! Our instructor will take pictures and video of your lessons on the lake and you can take them home to show all your friends. A great way to preserve priceless moments. This package MUST be booked before class starts. We routinely take pictures of all our lessons but those pictures will only be shared to our social media as time allows.

$35 per person or $50 per couple gets your at least 10 high resolution non watermarked digital images sent to your email for printing or sharing.
